The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a government-backed scheme initiated to provide financial support to small and marginal farmers across India. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive direct income support of Rs. 6,000 per year, which is paid in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 every four months.
The core objective of the PM-KISAN Yojana is to supplement the financial needs of farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and yields. This financial aid reduces the farmers’ reliance on loans and enhances their livelihood.
The scheme was launched on 24th February 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Initially, it aimed to benefit small and marginal farmers with land holdings up to 2 hectares. Later, it was expanded to include all farmer families, regardless of land size, from June 2019.
