Every 12-digit Aadhaar number sits on a record in the UIDAI database. The card is a printout of that record. When the record is wrong, every system reading the number gets wrong information.
An aadhar card update fixes the source data, not the printout.
Channels: UIDAI self-service portal, mAadhaar app, Aadhaar Seva Kendra, authorised post offices, select banks, and online work for the address. Everything else is available at Seva Kendra.
Every service linked to Aadhaar reads from the same database: income tax, bank KYC, SIM activation, gas subsidy, EPF, and passport. One wrong field, one failure, and it surfaces at the worst possible moment.
The aadhar correction online process is not complicated, and the data problem it solves is.
The only authorised address for online aadhar update is myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. Bookmark it and use only that. Several unofficial websites mimic the UIDAI interface, collect personal details, and offer nothing in return. The UIDAI update system exists only on UIDAI’s own portal.
Enter the 12-digit number, request OTP. Goes to whatever mobile is currently registered. Number changed, deactivated, or ported without updating UIDAI: OTP does not arrive, session cannot proceed. Fix the mobile at a Seva Kendra before anything else.
Most online submissions fail here. The aadhaar correction form equivalent is the supporting document: PDF or JPEG, with the full address clearly visible, name matching the Aadhaar exactly.
A Passport, voter ID, utility bill, bank statement, or rent agreement qualify. Scanned sideways, cropped at the edge, or a different name version, rejected.
Review everything before submitting. Submission generates a Service Request Number (SRN). UIDAI does not reliably send it by SMS. Note it from the screen before navigating away.
The acknowledgement page confirms submission and shows the SRN again. Download the soft copy. An email confirmation may follow if registered. Keep it as proof until the updated e-Aadhaar is downloadable.
You can take your most common request online. But for issues like name and DOB, you must visit Seva Kendra only. Neither minor corrections nor full changes can be done online.
Through the online process, it takes 3-7 working days in UIDAI’s verification queue and the updated e-Aadhaar is downloadable once done.
Seva Kendra: Data captured on the spot, database reflects in 7-15 working days. Physical card is a separate paid step.
Rejection: Resubmission after correction starts the clock over. Account for this if there is a deadline.
UIDAI’s portal accepts submissions and processes them. It does not explain why a rejection happened or what to do next.
That gap is where platforms help. Guidance on which documents qualify for which field, and how to read a rejection notice, saves multiple resubmission cycles. The edit aadhar card details process has five or six decision points that confuse first-time users. A clear resource at each one cuts the failure rate significantly.
Jainam Broking Limited works with clients on financial KYC. Aadhaar is the first thing checked, and when it is wrong, everything queues behind it: bank accounts, investment platforms, tax filings. Fixing it fast is not tidiness. It is how financial service access gets restored.
You can get address correction online in under ten minutes when the documents are right. But for name, DOB, biometrics, and mobile, you must visit Seva Kendra.
There are almost the same three failure points every time: Inactive mobile, document quality, and name mismatch. So, remember to fix those before submitting, get the SRN, and track on UIDAI’s portal. Avoid trying to get it from any unofficial sources.
Address: passport, voter ID, utility bill, bank statement, rent agreement. Full list on UIDAI’s approved documents page. Name: PAN, passport. Date of birth: birth certificate, SSLC, PAN.
mAadhaar handles address updates, language changes, and biometric locking.
For issues in name, DOB, and gender, you must visit Seva Kendra only.
Online address update is currently free. Physical card can be reprinted at Rs. 50. While Seva Kendra demographic or biometric updates is at Rs. 100 per request, and e-Aadhaar download is free.
Check the rejection reason on the UIDAI portal with the SRN. Usually, document quality or a mismatch. Correct and resubmit. If reason unclear, then visit a Seva Kendra.
myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, Check Aadhaar Update Status, enter SRN and see whether it shows: under review, accepted, or rejected.
For online, it’s one address update per request. For multiple demographic changes: Typically, you should have separate Seva Kendra requests. Some Seva Kendras processes multiple changes in a single visit.
OTP on the registered mobile for every online session. Biometric authentication at Seva Kendras for sensitive changes. All requests are logged in UIDAI’s audit trail. Biometrics can be locked via myAadhaar or mAadhaar to prevent unauthorised changes.
Document checklists, online versus Seva Kendra eligibility guidance, rejection interpretation: these reduce failed attempts. For multiple government ID updates, sequencing matters. Aadhaar update often needs to happen before PAN correction, bank KYC, and Aadhaar-mobile linkage for everything to work.
